Vaishnavi Group: Vaishnavi Gardenia at Jalahalli

Bangalore: Vaishnavi Group, a well-established name in the Bangalore real estate industry, recently launched their massive residential project – Vaishnavi Gardenia at Jalahalli, on Subroto Mukherjee Road, just off Tumkur Road. This condominium of 628 apartments is being designed to provide an oasis of greenery in the heart of Bangalore.

The highlight of Vaishnavi Gardenia is the more than 358 trees that form part of the landscaping of this iconic project. Most of the trees were a part of the original land parcel and have been transplanted to a specific area in the project as part of the landscaping efforts. A Home in Mother Nature’s Lap

Vaishnavi Gardenia has been envisioned to live up to Bangalore’s sobriquet of Garden City. Each of the apartments has been configured to have a “garden view”, which is the premise for the design of the building, as well as its name. Landscaping of the project began with transplanting of trees from parts of the project to designated areas. The architect retained several trees and planted many new ones in the project.
The development comprises of 5 blocks –A, B, C, D and E with a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments.

Speaking on the project, Mr.Harish S.N, Director, Operations of Vaishnavi Group says, “The idea of the project was to create a residential space that was in complete harmony with its natural surroundings. Rather than place pressure on our environment, we are trying to give back as much as possible.”

Gardenia has been designed as a “thinking” landscape. The idea was to create an interwoven, environmentally responsive design. A simple example for such a design – in the play courts area, each play feature is interspersed with tree-lined grids. This provides shade and works on delineating the spaces. The natural sloped terrain of this area has been retained as such, by adding terraced levels with seaters, thereby bringing together a functional requirement with the terrain of the site.

Maintaining Natural Contours

Maintaining the original earth to a large extent, the architects of Vaishnavi Gardenia have ensured that the project is built over the natural contours present. Speaking on this, the project’s architect,Mr.Suresh Marthand, the Principal Architect of Vaishnavi Gardenia says, “The approach road from Subroto Mukherjee Road slopes downwards from East to West for 12 meters. We have integrated this into the design in terms of creating levels or terraces over which each of the blocks are built. We have also used these contours to provide a natural seating structure for the amphitheater. It has also helped us bring in a beach volleyball court and set up an open air gym, in as natural an environment as possible.”

Going Green

Besides extensive efforts at green landscaping and tree conservation, the project also incorporates numerous other efforts at reducing carbon footprints and demands on natural resources. Vaishnavi Gardenia offers home dwellers on higher floors the advantage of solar heating.

Rain water harvesting systems have also been put in place to ensure that no natural water is lost from the project. This water is channeled from specific collection pits and used across the project for various needs.

Notable on the project premises is the presence of a sewage treatment plant. Sewage collected here is treated and then used across the project in the garden and for other non-potable needs. Interestingly the water treated here will be circulated in the flushing lines of the WCs ensuring that the demand for fresh water is reduced.

The presence of an organic waste recycling unit, ensures that all kitchen waste collected during segregated garbage collection will go towards composting needs of the gardens.

GoodEarth Homes :The FuturArc Green Leadership Award 2015

GoodEarth Homes, known for constructing environment-friendly and sustainable neighborhoods has been recognized by Asia’s largest leading Green Design competition in Singapore: The FuturArc Green Leadership Award 2015. The FuturArc Green Leadership Award recognizes sustainable design in “new, restored, rehabilitated or converted” buildings in Asia. The participating entries included property developers, architects, and professionals in construction and building design. This award had six categories: Individual Residential, Multiple Residential, Commercial, Institutional, Interior, and Socially-Inclusive Development. GoodEarth Malhar Footprints in India won a citation award in theResidential – Multiple Houses category at FuturArc Green Awards 2015.

GoodEarth was started by a team of architects & builders. The team comprising of Stanley George, Parthasarathy S, Jeeth and Natasha Iype has been experimenting with alternatives in architecture, exploring concepts of holistic development, through ventures in construction, housing, organic farming, tourism for the past 28 years. The properties are built-up with Green Technology bringing out the most esthetic designs close to the nature. GoodEarth is the only project to have built over 4lakh sq.ft of space entirely in mud blocks. The mud has been excavated from the site itself and they have worked with the Indian Institute of Science to design the block. These Blocks are called Compressed Stabilized Soil Cement Blocks have been built with since 1970, GoodEarth are the first to have used it on a scale such as this.

GoodEarth Malhar Footprints is an eco-village spread over seven Acres of land, located in Kengeri, Bangalore. The GoodEarth Malhar Footprints project is the first community of the Malhar Eco-village. Footprints is kept free of vehicular movement in the compound and homes are extended around a network of streets and landscaped courtyards.

The FuturArc Green Leadership Award was launched in 2009 by the BCI Group of Companies to seek out innovative and ecologically responsible buildings in Asia.
